Recently, the preliminary and selection rounds of the 15th National College Student Mathematics Competition Liaoning Division have successfully concluded. The competition is divided into four groups: Mathematics A Group, Mathematics B Group, Non Mathematics A Group (Science and Engineering), and Non Mathematics B Group (Management and History). The competition system stipulates that low difficulty groups can apply for high difficulty groups. Feng Yuxiang, a freshman student from the Business School, directly chose to register for the highest difficulty mathematics major Group A competition and won the national first prize in the preliminary round of the Liaoning division (held on November 11, 2023). He then qualified to represent Liaoning Province in the national finals (held at Shandong University in April 2024) with the third highest score in the province in the Liaoning division selection round (held on December 17, 2023). This is the first time that non mathematics major students at Panjin Campus have obtained the qualification to represent Liaoning Province in the national finals of the mathematics major group, and it is also the first time that they have obtained the qualification to enter the national finals of the mathematics major group as a freshman student.

It is reported that the 15th National College Student Mathematics Competition is the most influential college student mathematics competition in China hosted by the Chinese Mathematical Society, and has been successfully held for 14 times. In this competition, there are over 1,100 universities from 32 provincial-level regions across the country, with nearly 300,000 students participating in the preliminary round. Each provincial-level region selects representative teams to participate in the national finals. A total of 30 students were selected for the Liaoning competition, including 9 students from Mathematics A group, 4 students from Mathematics B group, 15 students from Non Mathematics A group, and 2 students from Non Mathematics B group, representing Liaoning Province in the national finals.
